Work Party 26th June 2011

What a glorious day to work outside, absolutely red hot but thankfully we were working inside the wood most of the time so it was pretty cool.
First thing this morning Rod went up to the wood and did some strimming for us so we could lay some more path edging, thanks Rod.
We had nine volunteers for the work party today which was slightly more than expected.
A big welcome to two new volunteers today, Richard and his dad Neil.
We started our work at the Peveril entrance of the wood, all hands on, to block some of the new holes that have been made in the hedges, by the party people, also Liz replaced the path edge just inside the entrance to the wood.
We had a little break and then made our way down to the middle part of the wood on the main  path and myself, John and Mike, laid a good section of path edging while at the same time Liz, Richard and Neil put down some more wood chip, on the southern most path, on the way down to the kissing gate.
Richard and Zdena did a rubbish collection walk and thankfully on this occasion not much rubbish was found for a change!
The only damage we found in the wood today was that someone has unbolted  the latch on the peveril entrance gate but haven't managed to pinch it yet, but they have took the bolt, how sad is that.
We finished today about 1430 as numbers depleted due to prior engagements and we had completed some good tasks today and the heat was starting to take its toll.
Thank you all for your help today.

Tasks to carry over to the next work party ( conservation volunteer day) are:- remove the chicken wire from the north end of the wood, kissing gate repair and maybe peveril entrance gate repair?,identify areas for shrub planting later in the year, more lovely woodchip and more path edging.

Cheers all

Phil (the tool man)
